Letters to Willie

 —  July 15, 2014 — 13 Comments

Well I have no idea if the is the right place to be sending this, as it was an e-mail address passed on by a stranger on FB.
But to make a long story short, a few months ago I commissioned a portrait for gentleman who’s dream it was to have a picture taken with Willie. Suffice to say, he never got the chance and asked me to draw one for him. He had been told for years that he looked like his idol Willie, and he wanted to show everyone they were all crazy! ( I personally thought he looked like Willie too! lol ). 24 hours after a family member of his picked up his portrait, Basil unfortunately passed away :(. Now I don’t personally know Basil well, but from in the short time I got to know him all he could talk about was Willie. So I’m hoping to do him one last honor of knowing Willie got to see this picture, and where ever Basil is now I know he would smiling from ear to ear!

If there is any way you can pass a copy of this picture Willie in anyway, I know you would make one life long Willie fan and his family a great honor.

Here is a link to Basil’s FB page. People still send him Willie updates lol

Thank you Kindly

  1. I too, have no idea this is the right place to post this information…perhaps you could pass the info below along?

I just found out that a dear ‘heart-friend’ and musician in Knoxville, yes – another – that LOOKS and SOUNDS like Willie, will be playing from 5-7p at the Merle 96.7 radio booth (at the entrance to Thompson-Boling Arena), preshow on July 20. It would be AWESOME if someone could check him out and see for yourself! Truly, Steve Scarbrough is asked if he’s Willie quite often – in regular life and when performing. If someone could drop by the booth; you’d really understand why! Thank you so much!

  2. Hey Willie,
I attended the show at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights MI last Sunday July 13th. After the show ended I decided to spend my hard earned greenback and purchase a t-shirt. ONE t-shirt. The next morning I looked at my cc receipt and noticed the crook selling shirts charged me $50 bucks for one lousy shirt. Is it my fault I didn’t notice the over charge? Absolutely. However, I never imagined getting ripped off at a Willie show. Receipt reads: Willie Nelson Merchand 3571 Far West Blvd #118 Austin Tx 787313064 Terminal ID 05146851 345463175884. purchased at 21:34:57. Invoice 1610004 batch # 000161.

Pretty close. Beautiful story and drawing.

  6. I need to ask a favor. My uncle ran a production and photography studio in Mesquite some years back. He had become friends with you. Please contact me if you have any pictures of the two of you. He passed away almost 20 years ago and the whereabouts of his photos are unknown. Thank you. His name was John. I believe you will remember. Thank you.

  7. Great story, and a good drawing.

I waited many, many years to attend a 4th of july celebration with Willie. I got to go this year at Billie Bobs in Ft Worth. I have loved Wille since I first saw him in Dallas with his suit and crewcut, in the 60’s. and had a album autographed. I eargerly anticipated the day, because we are on a fixed income and someone gave us tickets. I can tell you I was GREATLY disappointed. Very little shade, unless you could afford VIP seats-moving from one stage to another, rip off prices with water at $3. a bottle, hamburger $10.00, a $5 hat was $45.00. Willie didn’t come on till almost 10PM, and spoke his lyrics more than he sang them. Yep, I am way too old for that. Shame on you Willie. Do you need money that badly?

Willie, My husband and I love your music. We have seen you in concert many times in Beaumont, Orange and Winnie Texas and have a lot of your t-shirts. But I am very disappointed to hear that again you have cancelled a concert at the fairgrounds in my hometown of Charlotte, Michigan. Last year I heard you hurt your shoulder, understandable. But 2 years in a row….Why this summer ???? A lot of people will be disappointed up there. Also it was to benefit the local Senior Citizen Center and I hear they may be in trouble now. I there any way you can get there and play in Charlotte, Michigan and or make it up to the Sr. Center????????????? Thanks for reply, Love you Willie, Brenda

  10. Help me. My daughter Molly loves when you sing “the scientist.” She will be married on March 5, 2016. I have always listened to you and love your music. I have not been well and want to give her a gift of music. We live in Lafayette, Louisiana . I know that you that this is far fetched but I would love for you to sing this song at her reception. My spirit speaks to yours in helping this wish come true. Shawn

    Dear Willie
Just read what I think was the best book I have ever read … “It’s a Long Story”. Congratulations, you did a great job. My husband even read it and he rarely reads. Neither of us could put it down. We each finished it in about 2 days then felt sad that it had to end. We felt like “Ole Willie” was sitting there telling us his deep, dark secrets. We are 76 and 78 years old, and grew up in the mountains of N.C. and now live in FL. We could relate to everything you said. You are a wise and talented man.
    With Love and Best Wishes
    Winnie

  13. This too is a big request . I have traveled around the united states to willies nelson concerts for 40 years my goal was 10 a year . then I married my husband and he also feel in love with willie. We were at the 4th of July picnics , opening of bio diesel and store and at luck a few times, my reason for this letter is my husband is now in a small assisted living of about 30 residents with Alzheimer’s .willie will be performing at the Sharon Morse arts center in the villages fl on march 8th I now live in the villages and am in club luck and have front row seat for show, but was wondering is there any way if Willie is there early ,how can I hire him to stop by this assisted living so I could give my husband the one thing I know would make him happy and I know if he recognizes anything now it would be Willie . the home is 10 miles from the villages and easy place to pull the bus in front of .A few songs from Willie could lift the spirits of these residents a bunch. Hoping for a reply
I know this is a long shot but you never know about Willie ,had to try
    Best Wishes
    Brenda
