Jody Payne, Willie Nelson guitarist, passes at 77

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Jody Payne spent the last years of his life on the Gulf Coast. He lived with his wife in Stapleton and taught guitar lessons at pickers paradise.

According to Baldwin County officials, Payne died at 5:12 a.m. Saturday, August 10, from cardiac problems.

Jody Payne shared some memories of his decades on stage with Willie Nelson, back in 2005, when Nelson played in a Hurricane Ivan benefit concert in Pensacola.

Payne played the guitar for more than 30 years.

On Sunday, August 11, FOX10 News caught up with a few talented locals who bear all the marks of Payne’s influence.
